Geremy’s 2024 Insights: Social

Each year I receive my “Spotify Wrapped,” which gives me a summary of my music listening habits throughout the year.  Although it’s exciting to see that I listened to Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” 641 times, this information has very little value for me.  This made me realize how useful it would be to get a “wrapped” summary for information that I actually care about.  So instead of waiting for someone to do it for me, I made it myself.

As part of my year-end reflections, I’ve compiled my data from six different sources, separated into three categories:  Social, Lifestyle, and Travel.  First I’ll share information on my social data.

In 2024, I primarily used two social networks: Instagram and TikTok.  On Instagram, I created 279 posts, which consisted of:

  • 3 timeline photos
  • 7 video reels
  • 269 stories

May was my most active month, with 1 timeline photo and 56 stories, while February was my least active month with a total of just five stories.  In terms of engagement with others’ content, I interacted 327 times throughout the year:

  • Wrote a total of 12 comments (which surprisingly received 4,594 likes)
  • Liked 105 timeline photos
  • Engaged with 210 stories

This is a significant contrast to my TikTok usage. Although it was my most used app of the year with hundreds of hours spent mindlessly scrolling, I didn’t create any content of my own. Instead, my engagement consisted of 583 likes, 32 saved favorites, and 18 comments.

As for Facebook and Twitter (I refuse to call it “X”), my usage was so small that the data is statistically irrelevant and not worth sharing.

This information was eye-opening for me because it made me realize how much data I freely give to Instagram and how much time I waste on TikTok. For me, it seems like a bad investment to freely give so much time and information to apps that can disappear at any moment and take my data with them, like Vine did in 2017. In 2025, I’ve got a plan to modify my social network patterns and I look forward to sharing more information about it!

In the next entry, I’ll share data on my iPhone’s photo album and Amazon.com purchases, which revealed some surprising insights about my digital life beyond social media.
